Sleeping Pods Schiphol Airport

Among the airports that you’ll be lucky to be stuck in during a layover or a canceled flight is Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport which has plenty of sleep options for passengers – including the new innovation of sleeping pods by Gosleep.

In this guide, I will provide detailed information on places to sleep at Schiphol, amenities you can get at Schiphol’s sleeping pods, cost of the cabins per hour, and how to book, among other relevant topics that will get you sorted in terms of where to sleep.

What is a sleeping pod?

Also called sleep cabins, sleep rooms, sleep capsules or snooze boxes – sleeping pods are soundproof, ventilated and temperature-controlled private spaces that give you the chance to relax or sleep during long layovers or airport delays.

They vary in size and amenities but most of them have charging points for your gadgets, reading lights, a comfy mattress and some even come with a TV and noise-canceling headphones.

Sleeping pods usually have a door that you can close for privacy and some have curtains for extra seclusion. You can book them for a few minutes or hours depending on how long your layover is.

One of the leading brands that manufacture these $10k+ cubicles is called GOsleep which is a Finish company with operations in several airports across the globe including Changi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, JFK, and others. Other companies that run similar model of pay-per-use sleep spaces at airports include RestWorks and Minute Suites.

Can I sleep at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport overnight?

Unfortunately, the airport only allows sleeping in the public area of the terminal during nighttime hours, when flights are not operating. You’ll need to show your ID and boarding pass if you want to stay overnight. If you fall asleep lying across chairs or benches during daylight hours, airport staff may wake you up.

If you’re looking for a place to catch some Z’s at night while at Schiphol airport, your best bet are the designated rest zones where weary travelers can relax in reclining chairs. You’ll find these locations near Gates D and E (upstairs too), as well as near the entrance to Gate C.

Does Amsterdam Airport have sleeping pods?

I could not ascertain whether Amsterdam Airport sleeping pods listed on Gosleep website are operational as Gosleep website provides a link to a spa instead of a link to make a booking. It is possible that Amsterdam airport’s sleeping pods are operational and that passengers are required to make a booking on arrival but this is one of those airports with ‘reports’ of sleeping pods installed but not many can attest to it.

Gosleep is a growing brand and it isin their interest to list airports that may not have actually started using their sleeping pods so as not to disappoint passengers.

So, if you are looking for an airport that has Gosleep pods and you cannot find one, it may be best to check with the airline or travel agent to see if they can make a booking for you.
