If you’re flying through Newark Airport which lies to the West of New York’s JFK, you may not have a lot of sleeping or rest options but this guide will assist you with what you can opt for. Newark Airport handles about a third of JFK’s traffic volume annually and is considerably busy for its 3 terminals if you’re connecting a flight here, you may be wondering if a sleeping pod or sleep capsules are available in this airport. These sleeping pods are equipped with basic amenities like comfortable pillows & blankets, charging points for laptops/phones, internet access in most cases, and even a TV/audio system. Some pods also provide a place to store your luggage and some even have showers too!
Are there sleeping pods at Newark Airport?
Unfortunately, providers of pay-per-sleep-session providers such as Minute Suites have not expanded to Newark Airport. That’s not all, the airport is also the least equipped for travelers looking for good sleep/nap locations in this airport. There are sleeping pods in other East Coast Airports such as LaGuardia and JFK and anticipate that Newark Airport will be launching soon.
So where can I sleep at Newark Airport?
Although some passengers have found it uncomfortable, it is possible to sleep in seats without armrests in Terminals A and B at Newark Airport. The airport permits passengers to spend overnight hours in the public pre-security area of the terminals.
If you can’t find any available airport chairs, you have the option to lie down on the floor. However, most chairs in airports are fastened to the floor and don’t have armrests. Therefore, you may need to lie on the cold floor if you want to stretch out. To make it more comfortable, you can bring extra layers or a sleeping pad. Terminal B is generally considered to be one of the nicer terminals, particularly inside the Security area.
Remember to bring your own sleeping bag, mats, hoodie, gloves, blanket, and other gear for warmth if you plan to sleep on the floor at night. These items may not always be available. EWR is also less noisy at night compared to during the day. This may only be worth it if you have an overnight layover and don’t want to book hotels.
