Navigating Charlotte Douglas International Airport
All concourses at Charlotte Airport are easily accessible from the main terminal and each other considering its relatively small airport, this makes it possible to walk between 2 furthest gates within 15 minutes thus there are no electronic people movers. From Concourse A to the west is the Checkpoint A. to reach concourse A from B, take a left out of Concourse B and from the other concourses take a right out of concourse B. to reach the D and E gates from concourse C, take a right out of concourse C or to reach A and B gates take the left. To reach Concourse E from Concourse D, take a right out of concourse D or to reach other concourses continue straight along the moving walkways. From Concourse E to reach concourse D, take a left out of the concourse E or to reach other concourses take a right and walk along with the connector.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport Expansion
In 2007 the airport unveiled plans for a fourth runway which the construction began in March that year. The new runway, 18R36L, was completed in December 2009 and became fully operational in February 2010. This new runway allows for triple independent landings and is primarily used for flight arrivals. It will also reduce arrival and departure delays and is expected to have a salvage value of $65 million delay avoidance cost.
The federal government allocated $325 million for road relocation and road construction. The roadway construction includes the building of two bridges. The completion of the two bridges was anticipated by end of 2010. The bridges allow train access to the proposed intermodal facility. There were plans to expand Concourse E, and construct a seven-story car park and a new international terminal which was anticipated to end in 2012

There is a special shuttle that runs to/from the upper level of the terminal offering non-stop service. The parking services are offered at rates of $14 per day.
Curbside Valet is one of the most comfortable ways to park with valet staff offering parking and luggage assistance, car-washing and many more. The services are available from 5 am to 11 pm and offer their services at rates of $35 per day.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport has one main with five concourses spaces, covering an area of 1.7 million square feet. The five concourses are letters designated as A, B, C, D and E connected with the main terminal by ramps and elevators.
The upper level 2 of the airport terminal has ticketing counters and a check-in and departure area while the lower level 1 house an arrival area and baggage claim. Food and beverage outlets are located in the second level of the terminal. The second floor also accommodates a duty-free outlet, gift shop, a bank and ATMs. Level 3 is the Mezzanine level with the USO lounge, chapel, and nursing room.
Concourse A has a total of 21 gates split across 2 areas, gates A1-A12which are closest to the main terminal and gates A21-A29which are further north of the airport accessible via a connector with moving walkways.
Concourse B is located in the southwest area of the airport and has 16 gates numbered B1-B16. The concourse has American Airlines Admiral Lounge and a range of shops and restaurants.
Concourse C has 18 gates numbered C2-C19and is located southeast area of the airport. There are several shops and restaurants in this concourse and flights are operated exclusively by American Airlines. Just outside of the concourse is a large American Airline Admiral Club that is situated in the D and E-gate connector.

Concourse E consists of is located on the east side of the airport and consists of 37 gates numbered E1-E36. To access this concourse, you can use the escalator/elevator down to level 1from the connector where there are moving walkways within the different sections.

There are Airport Connectors that can help you to go from Charlotte airport to City Center or Northlake using two different routes; Route 5 Sprinter which leaves from the Charlotte Transportation Center to Uptown and Route 590 Airport Connector- Northlake which leaves from the Northlake Mall Park and ride.
There is also another transportation alternative Route 60- Tyvola Road that connects to Charlotte and leaves from LYNX Tyvola station to Charlotte airport.

There is a provision of hourly parking for visitors who pick up passengers where the first hour is free located in levels 4 and 7. You can also pick up passengers in the cellphone lot.
For drop-off, there is hourly parking on the upper side in the ticketing and departures area.
