In November 2014, American Express announced the opening of its first West Coast Centurion Lounge at the San Francisco International Airport. This lounge, like all Centurion Lounges, is reserved for American Express Platinum Card and Centurion members who can access the lounge with their cards. This was American Express’ 4th lounge in the US and has since expanded now to more locations. Other lounges on the West Coast have since been opened by AmEx including LAX.
Here is a link to the press release of the lounge opening back in 2014.
In 2014, the lounge was initially 8,200 square feet when it opened. However, American Express recently announced the reopening of the lounge in December 2022 with an expansion that doubled its size to 16,000 square feet. During the COVID pandemic closure, they utilized the opportunity to expand the lounge in anticipation of a surge in travel after the pandemic.
The 2014 lounge was pretty crowded and really excited about the new spacious lounge here.
