As of early June 2022, there are 13 Centurion lounges across the US and 11 in other countries including the UK, Hong Kong, and India.

The 13 Centurion lounge locations in the US do not include Atlanta as they are in the process of building it.

What is an airport lounge?

It is a special area in the airport where members can relax, work, or catch up on some sleep away from the hustle and bustle of the terminal.

Lounge membership often comes with other perks such as complimentary food and drink, free wifi, showers, and more.

Centurion Lounges are a step above your average airport lounge.

They are owned and operated by American Express, so you can be sure that the level of service is top-notch.

Centurion lounges are designed to be a haven away from the airport with luxurious finishes, attentive service, and delicious food and drink options.

They offer a variety of amenities such as complimentary massages, phone charging stations, and plenty of comfortable seating.

Lease Approved for Building of Centurion Lounge in Atlanta

In June 2021, the City of Atlanta through its Economic Committee approved a proposal to lease space to American Express for them to design and build a dedicated lounge space at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Read the minutes here.

Usually, the City Council which owns and operates most airports in the US leases the space to individual airlines or companies for a period of at least 10 years.

I couldn’t find details of the terms of the lease but the lease space is about 26,000 square feet.

When will the Atlanta Centurion Lounge open?

The Atlanta Centurion Lounge is set to open in early 2023.

Where will Atlanta Centurion Lounge be located?

The upcoming Centurion lounge in Atlanta will be located in Concourse E, a very central location accessible by underground train. Concourse E is also where most of the international flights depart from so this is a very convenient location.

The construction of the lounge is expected to be completed in early 2023 and it will be open to American Express cardholders who have either the Platinum Card or the Centurion Card.

In addition to the amenities that you would expect from a lounge, Centurion Lounges also offer:

  • Complimentary food and drink: All of the food and drink in the lounge is complimentary. This includes a full bar with top-shelf liquor, wine, and beer. There is also a buffet with hot and cold options.
  • Free wifi: You can stay connected with free wifi throughout the lounge.
  • Showers: If you need to freshen up before your flight, there are showers available.
  • Borrow a tablet: If you forgot your device or just want to use something different, you can borrow an iPad from the lounge.
  • Charging stations: Keep your devices powered up with complimentary charging stations.
  • Workspaces: There are plenty of spaces to set up your laptop and get some work done or catch up on some reading.
  • Relaxation areas: If you just want to relax, there are comfortable couches and chairs as well as a TV area.
  • Family-friendly: The lounge is family-friendly with a kids’ play area.
  • Dedicated kids play area.

Centurion Lounge in Atlanta will be bigger than JFK’s

Centurion Lounge in Atlanta will be the biggest of all Centurion network of lounges, exceeding New Yorks’ JFK Centurion lounge by about 11,000 square feet and exceeding Centurion lounge in Denver by 12,000 square feet. The Atlanta Centurion lounge is 26,000 square feet and the Centurion lounge at JFK is only 15,000.

Centurion lounge at JFK is currently the biggest.

How to access Centurion Lounge in Atlanta:

To access the lounge, you must be a cardmember of The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or Centurion® Card from American Express.

You can also access the lounge if you have an American Express card and are a member of Priority Pass™ or Delta SkyMiles® Platinum, Reserve or Gold Medallion® Member.

The good thing is that you don’t necessarily need to have a ticket on that day to use the lounge.

You just need to present your American Express card and a government-issued ID.

If you are a Platinum cardholder, you can bring in up to two guests for free. If you have Amex Platinum card, you can add authorized user cards to the account for $175.

However, if you have the Centurion card, you can bring in an unlimited number of guests for free.

The following cards will give you access;

  •  The Platinum Card® from American Express 
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card and
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express card

Centurion Lounge in Atlanta Day Pass

American Express used to sell day passes to their Centurion lounges but they stopped. Like other Centurion lounges, the upcoming lounge in Atlanta will not sell day passes.

The best way to get access to the Centurion lounge in Atlanta is by getting either the Platinum Card or the Centurion Card from American Express.

Upcoming New Centurion Lounges:

Aside from Atlanta, Centurion lounge in Washington, DC (DCA) is currently being built and is scheduled to be opened in 2022.

Pros:

Cons:

  1. You need to have a Platinum Card or Centurion Card from American Express to access the lounge
  2. Can’t buy day passes anymore
  3. Food can finish quickly, especially during peak hours.
  4. They have a strict 3-hour rule. After 3 hours, you need to leave the lounge and can’t come back in even if you have a long layover.
  5. Some people find the staff to be snobby.

Conclusion:

If you are a cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or Centurion® Card from American Express, then the Centurion Lounge in Atlanta is a great place to relax or work before your flight when they open next year. Complimentary food and drink, free wifi, and charging stations are just some of the amenities offered. The only downside is that you can’t buy day passes anymore and the food can finish quickly during peak hours.
