Denver Airport Sleep Pods

If you’re traveling through Denver International Airport, you may be looking for a place to take a nap. With so many people passing through the airport each day, it can be hard to find a spot to rest. Luckily, the airport offers sleeping pods as an option for weary travelers. This guide will provide information on the different types of sleeping pods available at DIA, as well as tips on how to make the most of your time in one.

What is an airport sleep pod?

An airport sleep pod is a small, private space that can be used for napping or resting. Gosleep, one of the companies that provides sleep pods, describes them as “a cross between a first-class seat and a business-class hotel room.” The pods are outfitted with features like privacy curtains, noise-canceling headphones, reading lights, outlets, and Wi-Fi. They can be rented by the hour or by the day, and are located in airports around the world.

Below is an image of a sleep pod designed by Gosleep, a Finnish company providing innovative rest capsules for those operating in public areas such as hospitals and airports.

As you can sleep on the snapshot below that I obtained from Gosleep’s website, Denver isn’t one of the airports they currently support;

How much do Sleep Pods cost?

While Denver Airport doesn’t have sleeping pods, the cost of regular sleep pods in other airports such as New York’s JFK, Dubai, Schiphol, and Heathrow costs goes up to $120 for a 4-hour block. For example Gosleep, a Finnish company charges $48 for the first hour and $30 for each additional 30 mins in some airports.

Does Denver Airport have sleeping pods?

Unfortunately, Denver Airport has not installed any sleeping pods at this time. However, there are a few other options for those who need to take a nap before their flight.

Denver Airport doesn’t have any specific areas for napping or sleeping, so the best option is to book a hotel nearby. The Westin Hotel is connected to Jeppesen Terminal, but you will need to go through security again to get back into the airport for your flight. Some other hotels in the area offer free shuttle service.

You can also try to find a quiet spot in one of the airport’s public areas. The Great Hall has couches and chairs that can be used for resting, and there are plenty of benches throughout the concourses. Just be aware that these areas can get crowded, so it may be difficult to find a seat during busy times.

If you’re traveling with young children, there is a dedicated play area in Concourse B. This can be a good place to take a break while the kids burn off some energy.

Denver is not alone when it comes to the delay or lack of plans to install sleep pods. Other airports such as LAX, San Diego sleep pods, Tacoma, O’Hare, and several others are also waiting for opportunities to get passengers to get comfy naps.

What are the benefits of using an airport sleep pod?

There are a few benefits to using an airport sleep pod over other options like hotels or public areas.

  • First, airport sleep pods are typically more affordable than booking a hotel room.
  • They also offer more privacy and quiet than most public areas in an airport.
  • Finally, many of the pods available at airports around the world come equipped with amenities like Wi-Fi, outlets, and noise-canceling headphones, which can make your travel experience more comfortable.

What are the drawbacks of using an airport sleep pod?

While airport sleep pods can be a convenient and comfortable option for travelers, there are a few drawbacks to consider.

  • First, not all airports have sleeping pods available. As of this posting in late October 2022, Denver Airport hasn’t announced plans to install any.
  • Second, even if your airport does have sleeping pods, they may be located in a secure area of the airport, which means you’ll have to go through security again when it’s time to catch your flight.
  • Finally, while most airport sleep pods offer features like privacy curtains and noise-canceling headphones, they may not be completely soundproof. So, if you’re a light sleeper, this may not be the best option for you.

How much do airport sleep pods cost?

The cost of airport sleep pods varies depending on the airport and the company that operates them. For example, pods at London’s Heathrow Airport are only available during daylight hours. San Francisco International Airport charges $28 per hour or $168 per day for use of its nap rooms, which are similar to sleeping pods. At Dubai International Airport, travelers can book a stay in a private “cabin” for $25 per hour or $200 per day.

Does Denver Airport close at night?

The Denver Airport is open 24 hours, but it’s important to remember that airline check-in and baggage drop times depend on the flight schedule. You can find these hours by contacting your airline. If you’re currently in the public area of the terminal (landside), then you won’t be able to access the secure section of the terminal (airside) until morning.

It’s also important to note that security checkpoints and baggage claim areas may close overnight. So, if you’re arriving on a late-night flight, you may have to wait until morning to retrieve your bags.

Sleep Pods LAX Airport

Are you exhausted from traveling and need a place to catch some Z’s? LAX Airport has sleeping spots and there are talks of sleep pods being available that can help you recharge. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the sleep pods, including how much they cost and how to reserve them.

What is a sleep pod?

A sleep pod, also called sleep cabins, sleep box or sleep booth, is a small, usually private space where a person can sleep or relax. They are becoming increasingly popular in public places like airports and train stations, as they provide a quiet and comfortable place to rest.

Sleep pods come in different shapes and sizes, but most have a reclining seat, bed or hammock, and some type of noise-canceling features. Some sleep pods even have massage and aromatherapy functions to help you relax.

Sleep pods became popular following research on the importance of short naps and companies such as Gosleep and RestWorks are leading the charge in providing these services.

Sleeping pod amenities:

  1. Bed or reclining seat Privacy curtain or door
  2. Reading light
  3. Electrical outlet
  4. Wi-Fi
  5. Air conditioning and ventilation

How much do sleep pods cost?

Sleep pods usually have an hourly rate, with discounts for longer periods of time. For example, Gosleep charges $48 in the first hour and $30 for each additional 30 mins in some airports. You can expect to pay up to $120 for a 4-hour block.

Does LAX Airport have sleeping pods?

Unfortunately, LAX Airport does not currently have any sleep pods available. While some airports without rest or napping facilities have announced plans to install sleep cabins in the future, LAX hasn’t announced it. In addition, the airport doesn’t have dedicated sleeping or rest zones and none of the LAX lounges have resting lounges.

Where can I sleep at LAX Airport:

Your best place to sleep at LAX airport is at the benches which can be uncomfortable and you may get disturbed a lot. You can, however, opt to book hotels located within or just outside the airport for $100 to $200.

Sleep Pods Miami Airport

Airport delays are up 20% from Jan to May 2022 and if you are traveling through Miami Airport, you are in luck as they have plenty of sleep options. In this article, I have explained in detail all the best sleep spots including airport rest areas, airport hotels, and details on sleeping pods.

What is a sleeping pod?

A sleeping pod is a private space in an airport where travelers can take a nap or sleep overnight. Sleeping pods are usually located in airport terminals and often have amenities like blankets, pillows, and charging ports. Some sleeping pods even have beds!

A few companies such as Gosleep and Sleepbox offer sleeping pods for rent by the hour or day. These companies have airport locations in Europe and the United States.

Sleeping pods are perfect for travelers who need to catch up on some sleep during a long layover or delay. They are also a good option for those who want to avoid the high costs of an airport hotel.

Can I sleep at Miami Airport?

Yes, you can sleep at Miami Airport! There are plenty of good sleep spots throughout the airport, including several areas with comfortable chairs, benches, and floor space. There are also a few hotels located inside the airport terminals.

Does Miami Airport have sleep pods?

Unfortunately, Miami Airport does not have sleeping pods and the only options you have to get some rest is to use the lounge chairs in some lounges or to book an airport hotel. Sleeping pods are still a new concept and only a few airports in the US such as JFK, Atlanta, Schiphol, Dubai and Heathrow have installed these innovative sleep cabins.

Why Pick Sleep pods over hotels:

  1. Can pay per hour: If you only need a few hours of sleep, it is cheaper to book a pod by the hour than to stay in an airport hotel.
  2. More private: Pods offer more privacy than airport hotels as they are usually located in busy areas like airport terminals.
  3. More comfortable: Pods often have amenities like blankets, pillows, and charging ports to make your sleep more comfortable.
  4. Convenience: No need to leave the airport.

Do Airports Close at Night? Guide to Airport Opening and Closing Hours

Do airports close at night? While at this question, have you ever wondered why airports in the US don’t operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Airports are bustling areas that never seem to sleep and have been compared to small cities. Even after the last flight lands, overnight crews work to service and clean the aircraft while airline staff makes sure all passengers have left and that the first flights of the next day are on schedule.

In 2017, Harriet Baskas who covers Specials for USA TODAY managed to get behind the scenes of United Airlines’ overnight operations at Denver International Airport.

Do airports close at night?

Airports don’t technically close when the last plane takes off or lands for the night. With few exceptions, there are always people at the airport in case of emergencies like air traffic controllers, security, and law enforcement. There is also staff present to clean and do maintenance as necessary. If planes require repairs or upkeep, overnights are often the best time to do them because planes aren’t typically needed during those hours.

Oftentimes, passengers miss their flight or it gets canceled, and they have to wait until morning to take the next one. Fortunately, sometimes there are options for them to sleep at the airport.

Why Airports close at night:

Sound ordinance:

Most airports are located near residential areas, so they have to adhere to noise restrictions. This means that planes can only take off and land during certain hours so as not to disturb sleeping residents nearby. A writer who lived under the flight path of JFK airport until he was 10 years old noted how loud planes can be. Some cities have noise ordinances in place so that planes cannot fly over them between certain hours.

Runway conditions:

Runways need to be inspected and cleared of any debris before planes can use them. This is typically done in the early morning hours before the first flights take off. If there are bad weather conditions overnight, crews will also have to work to clear the runway and make sure it is safe for use.

Staffing:

There are a limited number of staff members who are able to work overnight shifts. This includes air traffic controllers, security, and other necessary personnel. As a result, there are fewer flights during these hours.

Passenger demand:

The majority of people do not want to travel overnight, so there is less demand for flights during these hours. This is why most airlines don’t offer many options for red-eye flights.

So while airports never technically close, there are a number of reasons why there are fewer flights and staff members overnight. If you’re ever stuck at the airport overnight, make sure to find a comfortable spot to sleep and have your boarding pass handy in case you need it.

Which airports operate at night:

Cargo-handling airports:

Most airports that operate at night are cargo-handling airports. This is because there is typically more demand for overnight shipping than there is for passenger travel. These airports often have very little lighting so that pilots can see the runway better. They also don’t have many amenities for passengers since they’re not expecting any.

24-hour airports:

Some airports are open 24 hours a day, but they typically don’t have many flights during the overnight hours. These airports usually have a few staff members on hand in case of emergencies. Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are two examples of 24-hour airports.

When do airports close at night?

Most passenger terminals in airports close around 10 pm although some airport facilities such as lounges, shops, sleep pods and restaurants may start closing or taking orders from as early as 8pm. If it is a smaller airport, they may even close as early as 6pm but airport landing and take off may continue until 10 pm. It all depends on the airport, their regulations and what type of airport it is.

For security reasons, many airports now have locked doors that only ticketed passengers can pass through after a certain time. This means that if you are not flying out, you will not be able to stay in the terminal and will have to leave.

What to do if you’re stuck at the airport overnight:

If you find yourself stuck at the airport overnight, there are a few things you can do to make the experience more bearable. First, try to find a comfortable spot to sleep. This may be difficult since most airports have hard, uncomfortable chairs. If you’re lucky, you may be able to find an stuck at the airport overnight:

If you find yourself stuck at the airport overnight, there are a few things you can do to make the experience more bearable.

Find a comfortable spot to sleep:

If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to find a comfortable spot to sleep on one of the benches or in one of the chairs. If not, you can always try to find a spot on the floor. Just make sure to have your boarding pass handy in case you need it. Some airports have sleeping pods that you can rent for a fee.

Eat and drink:

Most airports have at least a few restaurants and cafes that are open 24 hours a day. This is a good time to get something to eat or drink. Just be aware that prices at airport restaurants are often higher than they are elsewhere.

Stay entertained:

If you have a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, you can use it to stay entertained. There are also usually a few TVs scattered around the airport that you can watch. If all else fails, you can always people-watch.

Find a place to shower:

If you’re going to be stuck at the airport overnight, you may want to find a place to take a shower. This can be difficult since most airport showers are located in public restrooms. However, some airports have pay-per-use lounges that offer shower facilities.

The hours for airport security vary depending on the airport. However, most security checkpoints open at least two hours before the first flight of the day. So, if you’re flying out early in the morning, you’ll need to get to the airport well before security opens.

While other airport workers and airline crew go to sleep at night, airport security never stops working. There are always security guards on duty, monitoring the airport and its passengers.

Preparations to spend a night at the airport:

If you know in advance that you’ll be spending the night at the airport, there are a few things you can do to make the experience more bearable.

  • First, try to dress in comfortable clothing that you can easily sleep in.
  • You may also want to bring along a small pillow and blanket to make sleeping more comfortable.
  • It’s also a good idea to bring along any medications that you might need.
  • Finally, be sure to have your boarding pass handy in case you need it.

Consider 6 am to be a safe time to depart if your airport opens at that time in the morning.

For domestic flights, you should aim to be at the airport two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.

This will give you plenty of time to check in, go through security, and get to your gate.

Sleep Pods Safety: 15 Ways to Be Safe on Sleeping Pod

Do you have a layover and thinking of booking a sleeping pod at an airport but are not sure if it is safe? Airport sleeping pods are becoming increasingly popular for people who have long layovers or need to catch an early morning flight. These pods offer a private, comfortable and quiet space for you to rest and relax during your travels.

But are airport sleeping pods safe?

Before answering that question, let’s explore the topic of airport security first.

Are airports safe?

In order to determine the safety of sleeping pods, it is important to start with a discussion of airport safety. Airports are generally safe places. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), there were more than 2.3 billion passengers screened at airport security checkpoints in 2017. Of these, only 0.0012% were found to have weapons.

This means that the chances of being a victim of crime at an airport are very low. In fact, you are more likely to be a victim of crime at a hotel than at an airport.

However, there are always risks when traveling and it is important to be aware of these risks before you book a sleeping pod.

Some of the most common risks associated with airports include:

  • – Pickpockets and luggage theft: Pickpockets and thieves are always looking for opportunities to steal from unsuspecting travelers. It is important to be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings close to you at all times.
  • – Terrorist attacks: While the chances of being a victim of a terrorist attack are very low, they do occur. In 2017, there were nine terrorist attacks at airports worldwide, resulting in five deaths and 37 injuries. There have been a number of threats as well that have to lead to evacuations including the recent JFK airport evacuations.
  • – Natural disasters: Airports are often located in areas that are susceptible to natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods.
  • -Fires: Fires are a common occurrence at airports. In 2017, there were nearly 1,900 fires at U.S. airports.

Now that we have discussed the risks associated with airports, let’s take a look at the safety of sleeping pods.

What is an airport sleeping pod?

An airport sleeping pod is a pod or capsule that you can rent by the hour or day, which offers a private and comfortable space for you to sleep or relax in. Sleeping pods are becoming increasingly popular in airports worldwide as they offer travelers a respite from the busy and often loud environment of an airport terminal.

Most sleeping pods are equipped with a bed, pillow, blanket, reading light, and power outlet so you can recharge your devices. Some pods even offer additional amenities like noise-canceling headphones, TVs, and Wi-Fi.

Why do people need sleeping pods in the first place:

Sleeping pods are becoming more popular as an increasing number of flights get canceled. With most airlines still struggling to resume normal operations after the pandemic, labor shortages have hit the sector hard. According to the Federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics, in 2017 alone almost 40% of flights were delayed or canceled due to weather or late-arriving aircraft. In 2020, about 11.4% of flights were canceled and in 2022, things are getting worse.

According to data compiled by Value Penguin, from January to May 2022, 20.1% of flights were delayed 15 minutes or more. This is almost double the rate in 2020 during the pandemic (10.2%) and higher than any other year since 2014 (21.8%).

To demonstrate how widespread flight delays have been in 2022, the chart below shows the % of flights getting delayed since 2013.

Year% of flights delayed
202220.1%
202111.4%
202010.2%
201918.9%
201817.6%
201719.1%
201615.6%
201519.2%
201421.8%
201318.7%

How sleeping pods are making flight delays and cancellations bearable:

Following a series of studies on rest and how resting is instrumental in human cognitive performance, many airports have started to offer sleeping pods for travelers who are facing long delays or cancellations.

The pods provide a private and quiet space for people to rest and relax, which can significantly improve their mood and energy levels. In addition, the pods can also help reduce stress levels and anxiety.

What makes sleeping pods unsafe? 4 Key Risks

Sleeping pods are an example of spaces created within PUBLIC places which are the airport terminals that are used by thousands of travelers that pass through every day. As we previously established, public places come with their own set of risks, which include:

Risk of your luggage being stolen:

When you are asleep, you may not be able to keep an eye on your luggage and the items in your carry-on bags such as laptops, iPad, phones,s and such. There is a risk that the sleeping pods which are usually located in open halls designed as Terminals for various airlines, your luggage may get stolen.

Risk of sexual assault:

While there haven’t been several reports of sexual assaults taking place in sleeping pods, it is still a possibility. When you are in a sleeping pod, you are in a confined space with someone you don’t know.

There have been reports of sexual assaults taking place in other types of public places such as hotels, bars, and nightclubs.

Risk of being robbed:

When you are asleep, you are more vulnerable to being robbed. thieves may see this as an opportunity to take your valuables such as money, jewelry, and credit cards.

Risk of infection:

Open public places are breeding grounds for viruses to spread and we saw that in 2020 with COVID Pandemic which led to lockdowns. Sleeping in the open places you at higher risk of getting infected with viruses or diseases that can be passed on from one person to another when you are close together. Read about current Mask mandate guidelines for airports.

What can you do to stay safe in a sleeping pod? 15 Things to do to be safe:

There are some steps you can take to stay safe while using a sleeping pod:

Lock your sleeping pod and

Make sure to use the lock on the door of the sleeping pod or sleep cabin you are using – if it is lockable. This will help deter any thieves or criminals from trying to enter the space. If it is not lockable, make sure your luggage is stored in a way where it is not easy to access.

Use a TSA-approved lock to secure your luggage:

Use a TSA-approved lock on your luggage that can only be opened by you and TSA security officers using universal “master” keys. This way, your locks will never have to be cut open during bag searches.

Below is my favorite best-selling luggage locker approved by TSA for flying;

TSA-approved locks to secure your luggage when sleeping in a sleeping pod
TSA Storage Lock

Use an airport storage locker to keep your luggage:

If the sleeping pod in your airport doesn’t have space for you to keep and secure your luggage when you sleep, rent an airport storage locker.

Some airports have storage facilities where you can store your luggage while you sleep.

Airports such as JFK, Fort Lauderdale, St. Paul’s Minneapolis, San Francisco International Airport, and Seattle’s Tacoma have storage lockers (measuring 23 inches high by 15 inches wide by 35 inches deep) that go for $4 for the first hour and $1 for each hour thereafter.

Travel with a friend:

If you are traveling with a friend, consider booking a sleeping pod together. This will help deter any criminals as they are less likely to try and rob or assault two people. You can take turns sleeping or keep watch while the other person sleeps.

Be aware of your surroundings:

As we discussed earlier, it is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times when you are in a public place. This includes when you are in a sleeping pod.

Make sure you know who is around you and what is going on in the area. If you feel like something is not right, trust your instincts and leave the area.

Keep your valuables with you:

You can keep them in a secure place such as a money belt or travel wallet.

Avoid sleeping pods near the restrooms:

Try to avoid sleeping pods that are located near the restrooms. This is because people often congregate in these areas and it can be noisier.

It is also easier for someone to slip into a sleeping pod when it is located near the restroom as people are coming and going.

Check the reviews before using a sleeping pod:

If you are thinking about using a specific sleeping pod, make sure to check the reviews first. See if other people have had a positive or negative experience using the sleeping pod.

This will help give you an idea of what to expect and whether or not it is a safe place to sleep.

As we mentioned before, it is important to keep your valuables close to you when you are sleeping. This includes money, jewelry, and credit cards.

You can keep them in a secure place such as a money belt or travel wallet.

Don’t give away too much information:

When you are talking to someone, be aware of how much personal information you are giving away. If you are talking to someone you don’t know, they may be trying to find out more about you so they can rob you.

Be careful what you post on social media:

When you are posting on social media, be careful about what information you are sharing. If you are letting everyone know that you are sleeping in an airport, you are also letting potential criminals know where you are and when you will be there.

Don’t travel with what you can’t replace:
